Organizations are working hard to evaluate the relative value, cost, and risk of a wide range of generative AI (GenAI) use cases. These use cases tend to serve organizations' needs in two key ways: by improving productivity and
enabling flexibility and innovation. While customer-facing use cases have attracted significant C-suite interest, many organizations have realized that some of the most important GenAI use cases lie in the software development life cycle (SDLC). IDC research shows that software development and design is the business area that will be most impacted by GenAI this year (source: IDC's Future Enterprise Resiliency and Spending Survey,Wave 6,July 2023) and that application modernization and IT automation will be two of the top use casesfor GenAI in the SDLC.
